It was everywhere. Spreading fast like wildfire over every phone. My phone buzzed. Text after text. “Have you seen the news?”, I read from my Dad. I look at Twitter and all I see is “George Floyd”. I text my fraternity brothers from the Upsilon chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi. Within moments I realize it has been the topic of conversation all morning.
It would be the conversation in our group chat for weeks as the protest reminded us for weeks that we all could be a victim, if we let society tell it. From police officers to lawyers to real estate agents to marketing executives to sports agents to financial advisors to educators and students, over sixty brothers of Upsilon met to discuss our mental health. A pandemic, quarantine, unemployment, remote work, George Floyd’s murder, and managing our families was a huge challenge for many of us. We were unsure what to do but discussed that we had to protect the mental, physical, and financial wealth of ourselves and our descendants. With brothers who entered the fraternity in 1975, others in 2019, and many years in between, we had to find a common ground beyond the Black struggle and our college memories.
We read one chapter of Dennis Kembro & Napoleon Hill’s “Think and Grow Rich: A Black Choice” and we decided we needed to start a business and address intergenerational wealth. We knew a business could live beyond us. What business? We pondered for weeks. We decided to create a vending machine business. We would fill every open space we could think of with a vending machine. It would bring in income and was a standard business to rely upon. People like snacks.
Once it was time to put some money on the line, I volunteered to drive to Sacramento and file for our business. With many brothers questioning vending machines, we decided to create an investment group instead. This way we could operate like accredited investors and put our money together. Together we could make a profit for ourselves and have the option to gain equity in businesses, especially those contributing to the intergenerational wealth of Black people, and have impact across all industries.
We knew then, that we were Fox Capital Investment Group, Inc. We birthed a venture for capital gains and economic prosperity. For the profits of our business will spread the wealth of America to the Black community through investing or being invested in. We are excited to close out 2021 with over $50,000 raised from men working 9 to 5 jobs, labor intensive, corporate, self-employed and entrepreneurial endeavors. With our vast experiences and bring real world experience with college educated men. We are currently expanding to all brothers from Kappa Alpha Psi to help other brothers find a community of investors, Nupes, profit, and possibility.
